On March14th and 15th, Dr. Marvin Westwood and Dr. Michael Sorsdahl from the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Group Counselling and Trauma (CGCT) hosted a Level 1: Group Facilitation training for those interested in continuing education at UBC. More than 30 participants from a variety of backgrounds including counselling, corporate and not for-profits attended.
Core teachings include the stages of how groups develop; how to work effectively within them; what are the strategic leading skills; and what are the key member roles within the group. In addition to enhanced leadership and facilitation of group skills, these learnings are helpful in identifying and managing the hindering dynamics that can occur in a group. To do so, this training consists of a large group lecture format with in-depth video examinations with Dr.Westwood, and practice in small groups with specialized facilitator.
This training is part of a series of five created by the University of British Columbia’s Centre for Group Counselling and Trauma. The Level 2 training is now open for registration and takes place from May 15th to 17th.
